Stone | the sporty, utilitarian style root: GUIDE

The Stone Style Root is the industrial, relaxed source of inspiration in your style. Stones are in movement, making ripples and feel a little edgy . This is my guide for if you might be a stone and how to dress for your new style root

Personality

Although style roots are primarily aesthetic, and it is okay to simply be drawn visually to one of the style roots, usually the style roots will correspond with personality. The Stone is likely to have some of the following characteristics:

  • down to earth

  • relaxed

  • unbothered

  • adventurous

  • athletic

  • tough

  • practical

  • energetic

  • active

  • functional

Lifestyle

What you like in clothing will often correlate with what you like in other spheres of life, whether it be interior design or simply the activities you do.

Those with the Stone style root might enjoy the following activities:

  • hiking

  • walking through the city

  • jogging in the morning

  • going for a swim

  • chilling at home with a pizza

  • grocery shopping

  • listening to music on a walk

How to Style

The stone style root can be described as…

  • sporty

  • industrial

  • urban

  • casual

  • simple

  • messy

  • distressed

  • slouchy

  • outdoorsy

  • practical

You don’t have to include ALL of the following elements in an outfit to create the Stone effect, but one to three details will help to create this impression. There are also lots of other elements I could include, but I think this is a good starting point!

Sporty motifs

If you could wear it doing a sport, you will create a stone effect. Anything from baseball hats, to white socks, trainers, hoodies, leggings, sweatpants, t-shirts or even a hair elastic will feel sporty and relaxed.

Utilitarian elements

If an item has a detail which is inherently practical, or creates the feel of something practical, it will add to the stone feel. Something like zips, chunky pockets, chains or edgy belts can feel edgy and give a β€˜I don’t care’ feel that people with the stone root tend to love.

Hard-wearing textures

Textures which feel really practical and hard wearing, as if you could wear them on a hike or do a long day’s work in them, are a really simple way to create the β€˜stone’ style root in your outfit.

Oversized or baggy pieces

Making am item oversized or baggy instantly adds a relaxed, effortless feel. Oversized jumpers or jackets, baggy trousers, loose or heavy fabrics feel functional and careless in the best way.

Cosiness

Depending on your other style roots, a feeling of cosiness can be very stone. Comfy cardigans, relaxed sweaters, jogging bottoms, fluffy socks can all be an indicator of stone.

The stone style root adds sportiness, practicality and a relaxed feel to any outfit. Do you think you are Stone? Leave me a comment below!

Across the Seasons

It is quite easy to picture what stone might look like in autumn and spring, but what about in the other months? Your style root should stay with you across all four seasons, but it can be tempting to lean on a different root when you can’t visualise how your REAL style root might look.
