Should you dress like your celebrity look-a-like?

I have been obsessed with videos on my feed encouraging you to dress like your celebrity look-a-like. It's an intriguing premise, but does it actually work?

Is looking your best as simple as copying and pasting your favourite celebrity’s favourite look? If you know me at all, you might think I am a bit suspicious of this idea. It’s true that it’s this kind of thinking that I am on a mission to contradict; it’s this mindset which leads to simply copying an outfit and feeling awful when you see it on yourself, because your features are completely different from the original wearer of the outfit.

However, I like the idea of copying a celebrity look-a-like, especially for a beginner. Yes, there are flaws with the idea: what about self expression? What if they have similar facial features but a different body type? What about the wardrobe full of clothes I already own? All these questions are valid, but, I feel like this exercise gets to the root of what lots of us want out of Kibbe+ systems: a clear answer.

Unlike some of these videos on TikTok might suggest, I don’t think it’s as simple as finding any old celebrity you vaguely resemble and picking up their sense of style. It might take a little work to find your perfect celebrity muse. When bringing out your unique beauty, you have three elements you need to take into account:

  • your body type: your width, length and shape - essentially how clothes fall on your frame

  • your vibe: the feeling your features give off, and the details or “aesthetic” of your clothing

  • your colours: darkness, warmth and brightness

When it comes to finding a celebrity look-a-like, I would recommend focusing on your “vibe” or your ‘essence’. You are most likely to look like a celebrity facially, and its your facial features which decide your essence, so this is the most logical place to focus with this exercise.

To test the theory, I recreated some looks inspired by Amanda Seyfried, someone I have consistently been told I resemble all my life! I actually really surprised myself at the results as I feel pretty good about my everyday look, and suspected Amanda’s heavy eye would overpower me. When I tried a similar makeup look and hairstyle, I felt so incredibly confident and felt I had unlocked a part of my own beauty!

Who do you think is your celebrity look-a-like? Why don’t you have a go at recreating a look of their at home!
