Sun | the creative, playful style root: GUIDE

The Sun Style Root is the experimental, eclectic source of inspiration in your style. The sun is bright, cheerful and brings colour to the world. This is my guide for if you might be a sun and how to dress for your new style root

Personality

Although style roots are primarily aesthetic, and it is okay to simply be drawn visually to one of the style roots, usually the style roots will correspond with personality. The Sun is likely to have some of the following characteristics:

  • daring

  • creative

  • experimental

  • explorative

  • curious

  • inquisitive

  • unconventional

  • eccentric

  • fun

  • silly

  • comical

Lifestyle

What you like in clothing will often correlate with what you like in other spheres of life, whether it be interior design or simply the activities you do.

Those with the Sun style root might enjoy the following activities:

  • painting

  • listening to music

  • dancing at a festival

  • baking with a friend

  • watching stand up

  • being in a play

  • going travelling

  • going to a busy market

  • gardening

How to Style

The sun style root can be described as…

  • bold

  • eclectic

  • daring

  • avant garde

  • playful

  • artistic

  • eccentric

  • futuristic

  • vibrant

You don’t have to include ALL of the following elements in an outfit to create the Sun effect, but one to three details will help to create this impression. There are also lots of other elements I could include, but I think this is a good starting point!

Bright colours

Bright colours create a child-like, youthful feel which are fun and exciting. However, you can adjust the brightness of the colour for your own season! Shades of tomato red, sunshine yellow, apple green, for example, all have a sun feel

Bold patterns

Statement patterns feel loud and experimental - for bonus points you can mix and match your patterns. The more random they feel, the better

Literal details

Instead of abstract shapes, pieces which depict literal things such as fruit, love hearts, everyday objects, stars or other weather items, animals are all good examples of literal things which you could add to your outfits

Graphic prints

Adding text or images into your look through a print is a great way to add a fun, creative element to your outfit. They feel loud and like you have something you want to say

Unusual textures

Textures which aren’t your classic cotton, linen, wool and so on add an avant-garde feel to an outfit. Think about futuristic or otherworldly fabrics

The sun style root adds vibrant, distinctive feel to any outfit. Do you think you are Sun? Leave me a comment below!

Across the Seasons

It is quite easy to picture what stone might look like in spring and summer, but what about in the other months? Your style root should stay with you across all four seasons, but it can be tempting to lean on a different root when you can’t visualise how your REAL style root might look.
