Wide | Body Matrix Categories

Wide body types have width in their bone structure. This is my guide for if you might be in the wide category and how to dress for this feature

Features

Width appears in the bone structure. It means you are not narrow or balanced, but appear large in your width. You can be wide at any weight. These are some features to look out for:

  • wide shoulders (e.g. you often have to size up in jackets)

  • wide ribcage or bust

  • muscular, strong look when at a low weight

  • often triangle shaped (but not always)

  • sturdy feel

  • strong look

How to Style

You donโ€™t have to include ALL of the following elements in an outfit to honour your width, but one to three details will help to create this impression. There are also lots of other elements I could include, but I think this is a good starting point!

Open necklines

Wide, open necklines which are far from the neck honour the width in your shoulders. The opposite would feel restrictive against you and make your shoulders disproportionate. This can include an off shoulder neckline, boat neck, Bardot neckline or even a round neck, or an undone shirt

Loose clothes

Clothes which are loose on the body create a harmonious look for wide types as they echo the width in their frame

Open hems

Sleeves, hems, legs should all be flared or open from the body for the best looks for wide types. This compliments their wide shoulders and creates a balanced look

Chunky footwear

Finishing your look with a little point is the perfect way to finish your look as someone with a narrow frame! Pointed toes, and delicate shoes generally will be perfect
