Mountain | the powerful, polished style root: GUIDE

The Mountain Style Root is the structured source of inspiration in your style. Mountains are strong, intimidating and represent the idea of challenge. This is my guide for if you might be a mountain and how to dress for your new style root

Personality

Although style roots are primarily aesthetic, and it is okay to simply be drawn visually to one of the style roots, usually the style roots will correspond with personality. The Mountain is likely to have some of the following characteristics:

  • authoritative

  • commanding

  • mature

  • formal

  • smart

  • stoic

  • leadership

  • assertive

  • ambitious

  • decisive

  • strategic

  • business-minded

  • confident

  • they embrace challenges

Lifestyle

What you like in clothing will often correlate with what you like in other spheres of life, whether it be interior design or simply the activities you do.

Those with the Mountain style root might enjoy the following activities:

  • playing strategic games such as chess

  • public speaking

  • sport competitions

  • horse riding

  • attending a gala

  • debating

  • starting ambitious projects

  • sailing

  • attending lectures on interesting topics

  • browsing museums

  • visiting the city

How to Style

The mountain style root can be described as…

  • professional

  • structured

  • polished

  • masculine

  • luxurious

  • sharp

  • academic

  • tailored

  • formal

  • exaggerated

  • crisp

You don’t have to include ALL of the following elements in an outfit to create the Mountain effect, but one to three details will help to create this impression. There are also lots of other elements I could include, but I think this is a good starting point!

Suit silhouettes

Items you might find in a traditional office suit either worn together or with more casual items will instantly pull the mountain root into an outfit. This might include blazers, suit trousers, button downs or pencil skirts.

Pointed toe shoes

Pointed toes instantly add a touch of sharpness to a look and call back to the office. These don’t have to be stilettos, this could be a pointed ballet flat or a pointed toe boot.

Geometric patterns

Stripes, especially pinstripes, add a sharpness to any outfit as they are a strong, geometric shape. Other geometric shapes like plaid, houndstooth and argyle also can add a mountain element.

Quality fabrics

Luxury can absolutely play a role in the mountain style root, and so fabrics which feel either crisp, thick or otherwise good quality add this element of the mountain root.

Military silhouettes

The military is associated with structure, discipline and formality. Military inspired items tend to add the sharpness of the mountain root to any outfit.

The mountain style root adds formality, professionalism and structure to any outfit. Do you think you are a Mountain? Leave me a comment below!

Across the Seasons

It is quite easy to picture what mountain might look like in autumn and winter, but what about in the other months? Your style root should stay with you across all four seasons, but it can be tempting to lean on a different root when you can’t visualise how your REAL style root might look.
