What I wore to an October wedding

Some insights into how to choose a dress for a wedding, rewearing dresses for formal events and how to wear a colour which is a bit bright for you.

I have literally had four weddings and a funeral this year so I had to really test the boundaries of my wardrobe. Out of these events I bought one new dress and re-wore others that I already I know I love - one from when I was 17! The only new one was my bridesmaid’s dress for obvious reasons. I really believe in buying beautiful formal dresses when you come across them - not loads, just 2 or 3 - that really fit you and your style so that when an event comes around you don’t panic buy, and its a dress you know and love.

So many of us have the mentality that if it's been seen before on your social media or in person that its specialness has somehow been worn off - but that’s not true! If you wore a certain dress two years ago I can assure you people will not remember it - your outfits are much less interesting to everyone else as they are to you. This is sad but true.

I find that you can give a dress a whole new feeling by pairing with the right outerwear, bag, shoes and accessories. For example, in the past I have usually worn this dress with my hair up and it was fun to wear it with my hair down this time. I also usually wear this dress with metallics but this time I paired it with animal print which was SO fun for me.

I did on this occasion have to run out and get a new pair of shoes and a bag as I know from testing recently that my silver heels wouldn’t be comfortable enough as they are just that bit too high and loose. I ended up with these absolute stunners from Moda in Pelle and discovered I may actually not be a 5, a 4 and a half or even a 4 but actually a 3 and a half which explains why I am always struggling with shoes!

I am in love with leopard print and animal prints generally, it’s a bit of a wild card for my style but I love it. This kind of dress is perfect to wear with animal print. The temptation when you have a crazy dress colour is to ‘tone it down’ with nude or black accessories when actually that makes it bolder and seem like a wrong choice. I know that this dress is on the brighter end of my palette, so I leaned into the fact that it’s a fun choice with a fun shoe which makes it feel more intentional. I then picked out a simple bag which complemented the shows and also I know I will wear a million times.

One of my favourite moments from the day was when Arthur had to carry my nanny to the barn for the reception. She had a brain tumour removed a couple of years ago and has struggled with walking ever since - going back and forth for photos, the ceremony and so on left her absolutely exhausted so she got the privilege of being carried by a nice young man!

I enjoyed the opportunity to then pair with some gold earrings as obviously I suit silver better - these are quite a pale gold as opposed to yellow gold so they don’t feel really bad on me, especially as they are separated by the diamantés.

I had such a lovely day I thought I would just share with you guys a little extra post this week with my mindset behind the look - hopefully you have gotten one or two insights!
